Should I Still Have Protected Sex Without Telling My Partners That I May Be Infected With Genital Herpes?

Before anyone jumps the gun and says "NO, you idiot!" I would like to
briefly explain my story to you. So, last summer I was seeing a male
who, I later found out after we stopped dating, may have been infected
with genital herpes. He found this out when his new girlfriend broke out
a day after they had sex. He decided to inform me of this right away,
but we both found it odd that neither of us had ever shown any symptoms.
I went to the doctor (this would have been about a month after the last
time I had sexual contact with this other male) and he told me that it
would be pointless to give me a blood test when the virus is not present
in my system because it could affect the outcome of the test. He
basically told me that if I hadn't shown symptoms by that time, I was
probably fine, but should simply use condoms for now on. I've had
several other partners since then and none of them have shown any
symptoms after we had sex. However, recently somebody I was with told me
about a month after we had sex that we had been infected and assumes
that I spread the virus to him. Everyone I have told this story (who are
people who know these two men) seems to think that the man I was seeing
last got the virus from somebody else and that I have been losing my
mind allowing myself to be paranoid about whether or not I am infected
for a whole year. I don't know what to do. I can never find out for sure
if I have herpes until I am able to get tested. What if I never show
symptoms? Does this really mean that for the rest of my life I will have
to inform each person I wish to have sexual contact with that I may or
may not have genital herpes and am not on medication for it? Basically,
I am wondering just how likely it is that my future partners will get
infected if I have never shown symptoms and use condoms.

Why Do People Answer ?s They Dont Know The Answer To?

It make me mad when people think they know about herpes and they tell
people the wrong answer. I have both types. Yes herpes can form inside
the mouth even on the Tong. Yes you can give genital herpes to someone
if you have an outbreak in your mouth and go down on them. Yes herpes
can form any where on your body, even your eyes, your chest, your legs,
inside your mouth, on your tong, even the insides of your lips not just
the outside. Herpes are fluid filled bumps. You can see the fluid in
them. They pop and form sores and take a week to heal. You can give
herpes to others only when your about to get an outbreak and when you
have an outbreak. Yes theres meds that keep the virus in the vain ends
so you dont get outbreaks are pass it on. My man hasnt got them yet. I
havent had an outbreak in one year. 1 out of 5 people have herpes. You
can all ways tell before you get an outbreak because you get sick first.
Your body trys to kill the virus all the time but this virus hides in
small veins where white cells cant go. Some peoples body even kills it.
Thats why the dc retests you every year. You can give birth and not pass
it to the baby. Thats why the dc ups the meds. Did people find this useful?
Im marryed and my man dont have herpes. Herpes is not a big deal. When
your on the meds you cant spread it. The meds keeps the outbreaks at
bay. It did bother me at first but ive only had one outbreak in my mouth
and down there. I have only been with 2 men after I got herpes from a
friend. The 2ed man im marryed to.
Ive been living with herpes for one year.

Should My Boyfriend Get Tested?

I recently have been diagnosed with genital herpes and have recently
lost my virginity to my boyfriend who has lost his virginity to me. I
have no idea how i got it if were both virgins. Should my boyfriend be
tested if he has never shown any symptoms and has never had sex with
anyone else but me?
thanks for your response! im positive hes a virgin and were both pretty
positive its from oral cause hes had cold sores before but he doesnt
think testing is necessary. and i want him to go just to be safe
and we did use condoms. it must have just been very very very bad luck
because he didnt have any visible cold sores. i know i can still get it
when the virus is dormant

How Likely Is It That The Herpes Virus Can Be Spread Through Oral Sex With Someone With An Active Cold Sore?

Two days ago my boyfriend started getting a swollen lip and he thought
that he must have hit it at work somehow. He gave me oral sex that day,
and the next day when he woke up his lip was worse and had a sore on it
so he went to the doctor and found out that it was a cold sore (his
first one ever). So I was exposed to his active cold sore on my mouth
and genital region.

How likely is it that I have contracted the herpes virus in either
region? I assume there's a very high chance that I have contracted it.
Does anybody know how long the incubation period is? Does the type 1
strain of herpes (which I think is the strain that my boyfriend has with
the cold sore) cause less severe symptoms than the type 2 strain which
is more commonly associated with genital herpes?

I was exposed two days ago (but we kissed and has sex two days before
that when he might have still been contagious?) and since this afternoon
my throat has been sore in the back of my mouth on one side and I just
looked at it with a mirror and noticed that there is a small lump on the
sore side that isn't on the other side. Could this be a manifestation of
the virus? I had oral thrush a few years back which caused a whole lot
of ulcers in my mouth and the doctor suspected that it may have been
herpes at first, so maybe this is how it is showing up?

Sorry to ask so many questions. I just want to get an idea of what to
expect. If anyone could answer any of those questions it would be
greatly appreciated.

STD Blood/Urine Test?

I went to my Dr. recently and was tested for STDs. They took both my
urine and blood. my question is if genital herpes is included in that
test? I read that you have to request a special herpes test if you get
checked for STDs, but they were talking about just a blood test. so is
the urine for the herpes testing?
